The last weekend of April, the 3-day Optimist Criterium Regatta 2024 Koper Europa Cup-Guličev memorial was successfully completed in Koper Bay, organized by JK Jadro Koper. More than 100 younger sailors in the optimist class from seven countries—Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, Estonia, Ukraine, Tajikistan, and Slovenia—competed in the regatta. This was the last criterium regatta of the season to decide which of the sailors would represent Slovenia at the European Championships in Italy and the World Championships in Argentina. They sailed seven races in three days. It was tense until the last race, with only a few tenths of a point separating the competitors. The judges also had a lot of work to do in deciding on the protests. However, in the evening, they announced the Slovenian team for the optimist class, and among them is Zoja Ribarić. All of us who know Zoja know that she won her place on the national team with hard work, determination, and a lot of sacrifice. But it all paid off because she achieved her dream and the goal she set for herself. "Zoja, we are proud of you! Follow your dreams!"

In honor of Earth Day, our primary students spent some of the day celebrating pollinators and local flora. After a fascinating presentation from a local beekeeper, students created planters using recycled materials and replanted the seedlings that sprouted in the Erasmus diversity garden planters. Keep an eye on the playground fence—once the weather warms up, our planters will be moved outside, and our playground will be adorned with oxeye daisies, poppies, and other brilliant wildflowers. Hopefully, our efforts will pay off, and our garden will provide plenty of nourishment for our local pollinators.

We are a family of 3 from Ljubljana who, as part of an Erasmus exchange, decided to host one of the children who were selected to visit Ljubljana together with their teachers and other children. We were waiting impatiently for Sunday, 17 March, when 11-year-old Thiago from Elba came to stay with us for a week. Three weeks earlier, we had contacted him by video, seen him and his parents in person for the first time, exchanged a few words and said goodbye. And shortly after that, that Sunday arrived, when a bus full of children pulled into the school car park at around 7pm. The very first moment our guest stepped off the bus was special. He and our Lucas hugged each other and it was clear that we were in for a wonderful week full of new adventures. Thiago was a very warm and friendly boy from day one, with good habits and good manners. The only thing that might have worried us a little before his arrival was the language, as two of our family don't speak Italian and the third (in this case Lucas' father) left on a business trip shortly after Thiago's arrival for almost the whole visit. Well, even that fear disappeared pretty quickly, because we tried to be reciprocal and Thiago understood a little English. The week with Thiago was a wonderful experience for both Lucas and us, his parents. The mornings were spent at school and the afternoons were spent with the family and it really made each day special and unique. The week flew by, we all needed a little rest after Thiago left, but even now that Thiago is no longer with us, we still have some really good memories of a really special visit from Tuscany. As a family, after this nice experience, we decided to visit Thiago and his family in Elba at some point in the near future. And if we ever had the chance to host someone again, we would not hesitate to do it again. Čerček Škrinjar family
